The Anishinaabe world view on water states "We have the right and responsibility to protect the water". Based on this view, Grand Council Treaty #3's (GCT3) long-term vision for the program is to protect and preserve the traditional waters of the Anishinaabe people from all 28 Treaty #3 First Nations by empowering and educating them through long-term stewardship and capacity-building opportunities. The goals of the CBM program are to protect and preserve traditional waters; build the environmental knowledge and capacity of Treaty #3 members; and prioritize youth engagement in the program.

Data Collection Information

A YSI Professional Plus handheld multiparameter meter with a conductivity/temperature sensor, dissolved oxygen sensor, and pH sensor was used to gather water quality data. All data was recorded when the pH value was balanced out. The YSI sensors were calibrated on a monthly basis. A hand-held Secchi disk was used to calculate the clarity data. A handheld GPS was used to collect the coordinates. Depth was collected using either a depth meter or using the secchi disk. max wind speed and air temperature was collected using a handheld weather meter. Hardness, chlorine, and alkalinity were collected using test strips that were compared to a colour-based scale; therefore this data may be subjective.
