Yukon River Intertribal Watershed Council - Indigenous Observation Network
This dataset is part of the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council's (YRITWC's) Indigenous Observation Network (ION) Water Monitoring Program. The YRITWC is an Indigenous grassroots non-profit organization, consisting of 74 First Nations and Tribes, dedicated to the protection and preservation of the Yukon River Watershed. The YRITWC accomplishes this by providing Yukon First Nations and Alaska Tribes in the Yukon Watershed with technical assistance, such as facilitating the development and exchange of information, coordinating efforts between First Nations and Tribes, undertaking research, and providing training, education and awareness programs to promote the health of the Watershed and its Indigenous peoples. Data generated by this program is used to assess water quality (non-point source/climate change indicators and point-source/natural and anthropogenic indicators) at water resources and within the YRB. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, United States Geological Survey, University of Alaska Fairbanks Chemistry Department and Water Environmental Research Center Laboratory, Government of Yukon Water Resources, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation provided standard operation protocols, technical assistance, and guidance.

Data Collection Information
Sampling design is outlined in the YRITWC's Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), adapted with permission from those produced by Cook Inlet Keeper of Homer and the Alaska Cooperative Extension, Alaska Native Village Drinking Water Protection Program Outreach. The Umbrella ION QAPP provides the framework of a standardized monitoring design that includes training availability, equipment choices, defines sampling design, describes collected parameters, defines QA/QC activities, describes sampling handling, describes sample shipment, and database management practices.
