Riparia Alumni & Community Data

Riparia is a Canadian registered charity that works to connect young women and science on the water. With our team of guides, scientists, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, participants learn and experience different ways of doing science, thinking about water, and learning from our environment.

Water quality data are collected during our camps and afterwards by Riparia alumni and staff using tools in the Water Rangers Freshwater Explorer & Compact testkits, including portable probes and test strips. Long term trends are tracked and logged on the Water Rangers data platform.

Data Collection Information

Samples taken using Water Rangers Freshwater Explorer & Compact kits. A digital probe is used to collect temperature and conductivity data from a triple rinsed surface water sample. Clarity is obtained via secchi depth. Dissolved oxygen is estimated using the Indigo Carmine test. pH, Alkalinity, Chlorinity, and Hardness obtained from Taylor test strip test.
