ELA LTER Discharge
Lake 239 is one of five reference lakes at the Experimental Lakes Area monitored as control lakes for other manipulation experiments. In recent years, the value of these lakes as whole ecosystem LTER observatories has become clear as signals arise from natural (forest fires, beaver dams, extreme weather) and anthropogenic (long-range pollutant deposition, climate change) sources.

Data Collection Information
Hydrometric measurements began on these stations in 1969 (Lake 239 Northwest Inflow) and 1971 (Lake 239 East and Northeast Inflow). Each station drains a forested and rocky basin that contributes to Lake 239.
Each station uses a V-Notch weir with a water level recorder. Both weirs and recorders have been modified during the data set collection.
