Woodstock First Nation Climate Monitoring Program

The Woodstock First Nation Climate Monitoring Program aims to continuously sample the streams and lakes of our elders before us and those who surround the Wolisataquey territory for safe fishing and swimming. The sampling is conducted by portable sensors that lay just below the water’s surface and sends the data to a device in which the data can be saved and reviewed.
The team of the Woodstock First Nation Climate Monitoring Program also promotes and encourages both youth and elders to play an active role in our project and to understand the importance of monitoring the health of our waters surrounding us.

Data Collection Information

A YSI multiparameter probe (Professional Plus) is used to collect water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity and oxidation reduction potential data at all river and stream sampling locations just below the water surface. Sensors for dissolved oxygen, pH and conductivity are calibrated every day before sampling and data are recorded on paper and logged on the YSI. Observations and notes are also recorded on paper field sheets. Field data are collected several times through the open water season.

Data Collection Processing

Logged values are compared to field sheets before uploading to confirm consistent and complete record keeping.
