Second Lake-Sackville Lakes

Map and Visualize

The Sackville Lakes Park and Trails Association aims to identify appropriate monitoring sites and implement sampling protocols for long term community monitoring of Second Lake. Water quality data is collected though the use of portable water sensors, Secchi disk and grab samples sent for laboratory analysis. The information is analyzed and compared to historical data and the CCME guidelines to determine trends and the water quality status of the lake.

Data Collection Information

A YSI Professional Plus probe is used to collect information on water temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total dissolved solids, salinity and pH at regular intervals through the water column in the deepest area(s) of the lake. Secchi disk is used as a measure of water clarity. Grab samples were taken at an inlet, outflow of a culvert and at the boat launch for E. Coli and sent to an accredited lab for analysis.
Plans are to include grab samples for standard water assessment and metals in the deepest area of the lake to be sent for laboratory analysis in our second year of testing. E. Coli sampling will also be expanded.
