Millard Piercy Watershed Stewards long term water quality monitoring program

MPWS is a volunteer-based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote community stewardship to help ensure long-term watershed sustainability. The Stewards work to assess, restore and maintain healthy ecosystems in the Millard Piercy watershed that continue to support native salmonids and other wildlife.

Funding Sources

MPWS’s water quality monitoring program is made possible through grants and donations from the Comox Valley Community Foundation, the Comox Valley Regional District and approximately 100 hours/year of volunteer field work.

Data Collection Information

A Hanna Model I 9829 Handheld Multiparameter Meter is used to collect water quality data such as Dissolved Oxygen Concentration, pH, Conductivity and Turbidity as well as water temperature. A Hanna HI 7609829-12 Nitrate ISE sensor will be used to collect Ni data if needed.
QA/QC and calibration procedures follow MECC recommendations.
The ambient air temperature is measured using common, non-calibrated household thermometers.
