Saulteau First Nations - Land Guardians

Map and Visualize

Saulteau First Nations Guardian Program conducts a water quality and quantity sampling program with the goal to determine current conditions, identify potential contaminants and to monitor long-term trends potentially impacted by climate change. In the short term we provide results on water conditions that are important to the community.

Data Collection Information

Sampling methods are both in situ and samples for laboratory analysis.
In situ is achieved through identifying the water column profile to guide the sample collection. This is achieved by conducting DO% and temperature measurements at 1m intervals using a YSI Pro20 until reaching the nearest whole meter above the lakebed.
Laboratory samples are collected at major stratified zones (epilimnion, thermocline, and hypolimnion) of the lake or a specific depth (1m, 10m, 20m) if uniform temperatures are detected. A Van Dorn is used to collect samples from the determined depths. Additionally, pH, TDS, conductivity, and turbidity are collected
