Province of Prince Edward Island - Surface Water Quality Monitoring

The Prince Edward Island Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action , Water and Air Monitoring Section conducts monitoring under several surface water monitoring programs in order to report on water quality to the public of Prince Edward Island. Sampling is carried out across the province and represents a range of land use. Results from both long-term and short-term sampling programs are included. Water quality data is collected by grab samples, submitted to the Standards Council of Canada accredited PEI Analytical Laboratories, and/or by calibrated multi-parameter meters. Some of this data is collected as part of the Canada-PEI Water Agreement. Data Collection Information

All samples are collected using prescribed methodologies and protocols. Samples are submitted to accredited labs (primarily the Standards Council of Canada accredited PEI Analytical Laboratories) and/or collected by the use of calibrated multi-parameter field meters. The primary areas of focus are nutrients, sediments and general chemistry including major ions, dissolved metals and physical properties.
