Peskotomuhkati Nation Coastal Restoration

The Passamaquoddy Recognition Group Inc. Coastal Restoration Plan collects water quality for long-term monitoring of watershed health in the St. Croix (Skutik) and West Fundy Composite watersheds. PRGI uses this data primarily for addressing barriers to sea-run fish, their associated habitats, and watershed planning.

Data Collection Information

A YSI Pro Plus with Quatro cable attachment is used to collect temperature, dissolved oxygen, barometric pressure, pH, conductivity, specific conductance. salinity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and nitrate at monitoring sites and opportunistically at fish monitoring sites, and road-stream crossings.

All regular monitoring site IDs are an alpha-numeric code representing a road-stream crossing within a level 2 watershed. The first three letters represent the level 2 watershed, and subsequent 3 numbers refers to the site within that watershed (ie. Magaguadavic River Watershed site 1 = Mag001). Fish monitoring water quality sites are coded to the watershed using the first two characters, followed by a desciption of the location with subsequent characters (ie. Letang River at Mill Cove = LTMC)

Data Collection Processing

In some instances values are calculated. DO mg/L was converted from % using the following converter: https://www.waterontheweb.org/under/waterquality/dosatcalc.html
TDS was calculated from Specific Conductance for freshwater sites where TDS was not measured. This was calculated using a linear regression model on existing PRGI TDS - SPC measured values that is statistically significant. (TDS calculated [mg/L = SPC[uS/cm] * 0.57039)
