Somenos Lake Watershed Water Quality Monitoring

The Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society collects water quality data for Somenos Lake and for streams that flow into and out of the lake. Somenos Lake is eutrophic, with weak stratification in the summer. Populations of trout and salmonids that used to survive in the lake in summer conditions are seldom observed at present. The Society hopes to locate sources of nutrient input to the lake and to recommend remedial actions.

Data Collection Information

Data is collected with a YSI Quattro Pro hand held instrument. Grab samples are lab analyzed several times per year.
