Beaufort Watershed Stewards Water Quality Monitoring Data, creeks added in 2022

BWS monitors streams on the eastern slopes of the Beaufort Range on Vancouver Island, between the town of Royston and the unincorporated town of Fanny Bay. We also do flow measurements and ground water monitoring, all as part of our mission which is: "to work to promote the health and resilience of local watersheds in the Beaufort Range and to ensure the quality and quantity of fresh water for the future."

Data Collection Information

A YSI probe (Pro Quatro Cable including Temperature, Specific Conductivity, and Dissolved Oxygen - galvanic sensor using 1.25 mil membrane) is used with a YSI Pro Plus or a YSI ProQuatro to collect data in specific locations every two weeks and weekly during low-flow (summer) conditions and after the first heavy rains of fall. A Hanna Turbidity Meter (HI98703) is used to measure turbidity in NTU and a Hanna pH Meter (HI98128) is used to measure pH. Air temperature at each sample location is measured with a non-calibrated glass thermometer.

Data Processing

Data is examined at the time of collection and compared to previous data for reasonableness. After data entry, data is compared to field logs and re-examined for reasonableness.
