DataStream can connect with other open data systems to extract, transform and load (ETL) data into DataStream in the DS-WQX standardized format.

Water Rangers

Monitoring groups using Water Rangers test kits and the Water Rangers data portal can choose to automatically share their data on DataStream too, eliminating the need to upload data twice.

API data use

DataStream’s API allows other tools to pull data from DataStream for use in research, machine-learning, analysis and reporting. Examples of tools using DataStream's API include:

WWF-Canada watershed reports

WWF-Canada Watershed reports (published in 2017 and 2020) were the first-ever national-scale assessments on the health and threats to freshwater in Canada. WWF-Canada used DataStream data to arrive at many of the health scores reported in these assessments.

The Ecohydrology group’s CLAWAVE project (Chemical Load Assessments for Watersheds: Automation and Visualization Experience) will develop and apply new methods to extract, treat and visualize various water quality indicators at the watershed scale.

Researchers at Mount Allison University analyzed microbial water quality data collected over decades by diverse New Brunswick watershed groups and governments. This project identifies patterns of microbial contamination along the Northumberland Strait.
